Carl Froch: Canelo is too strong

Former super middleweight world champion Carl Froch is in Las Vegas to work as a color commentator for SKY Sports. After having breakfast at the MGM Grand Cafe Studio restaurant, Carl had a few words about the Canelo-Jacobs fight among other things.

“I think Jacobs is a good fighter, he is fast, he is big and is a world champion, but Canelo is too strong. He has the power and I believe at this moment he is the best there is, he is at his peak. I believe Canelo is going to win.”
On a personal level, Froch doesn’t regret his retirement and doesn’t plan to come back to the ring.
“I retired because I lost the desire to fight. I didn’t want to do it anymore. I’m still in good shape. I weigh around 185. I could easily go down to 175 pounds but I have three kids now, a family, why would I want to come back? That’s it for me.”

One of the biggest fights of the year but no signs of this one being on Sky Arena either, the only upcoming events on there are UFC and WWE...
but why am I surprised, they didn't show Loma or Crawford's last fights either...

Canelo unifies WBC/WBA/IBF middleweight titles

In a tactical but exciting bout, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (52-1-2, 35 KOs) edged out a narrow unanimous decision victory over Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-3, 29 KOs) in front of 20,203 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scores were 115-113, 115-113, 116-112 in a bout with many close rounds, any one of which scored the other way could have turned it into a well-deserved draw. With the victory, Canelo added Jacobs’ IBF belt to his own belts to become the unified WBA/WBC/IBF middleweight champion.
Although most ringside observers favored Canelo in the early rounds, Jacobs ably executed his game plan of boxing from distance and holding Canelo at the end of his jab, keeping the Mexican star from getting into any sort of rhythm and forcing him to reach with his punches.
What might have hurt Jacobs’ cause is he wasn’t taking advantage with effective counters when Canelo lunged out of position, relying almost solely on his jab but with little else behind it. Jacobs also effectively switched stances early, with particular success boxing from the southpaw stance. However from round eight forward Canelo appeared to make the necessary adjustments, getting Jacobs to trade more out of the orthodox stance and having more success getting past Jacobs’ jab in the southpaw stance.
Jacobs still proved dangerous though, landing the best punch of the fight by either fighter with a huge left hook that stunned Canelo in round nine, prompting Canelo’s corner to ask if he was hurt after the round. The momentum from that left hook seemed to carry into round ten, with Jacobs getting the better of the action, but Canelo closed strong in the final two rounds, turning the tables on Jacobs by outjabbing the taller, longer boxer and punctuating his strong finish with a snapping right uppercut in a spirited final round.
A draw or narrow win for either fighter would have been a just result, but as he has so many times, Canelo’s offensive aggression, with maybe a slight assist from his boisterous fans, was enough to carry him to another big win over an elite opponent

Canelo-Jacobs Post Fight Comments

Following their world title unification fight, WBA/WBC/IBF middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (52-1-2, 34 KOs) and former champ Daniel “Miracle Man” Jacobs (35-3, 29 KOs) talked to the media at the post-fight press conference. Canelo stated that he now wants to unify all four titles. Jacobs said he thought he did enough to win and will now consider moving to super middleweight.
Canelo Alvarez: “I’m very happy. Jacobs is a great fighter. We knew it was going to be a difficult fight and I had the patience to come out with the victory. We knew the first few rounds were going to be difficult, it was a difficult fight but the important thing is that we won and added another title.
“Right now I will rest. My objective is to fight for another title, but the only other champion fights in June. You all know my fights are in September. That might be too close, so we’re going to think about it as a team and come up with a decision.
Daniel Jacobs: “I have to go back to see my performance. I know it was back and forth action. Early on it was hard to get the rhythm of Canelo and once I got the rhythm I started pushing him back and it became a really, really competitive fight.
“I tip my hat to the guy. I wasn’t surprised that he was able to take some good shots. I do think I was effective. His timing was good. For me, I just have to go back to the drawing board and see what I can do better. It’s questionable for me if I’m going to stay in the middleweight division because it is taking a toll on my body and it’s showing I might have outgrown the middleweight division and I might take my talents to super middleweight.”
“I thought I did enough to win…this will not be the end of me.”
Oscar de la Hoya: “What a beautiful weekend for Cinco De Mayo. Our champion won in what was a close and difficult fight. Now lets celebrate this Cinco de Mayo. It was a wonderful fight Jacobs as an amazing champion. I had Canelo winning by 2 or 3 points. Jacobs is a warrior. We are pleased.
“I mean who fights Golovkin back to back and then Jacobs?
“We haven’t spoke about his next fights. He has lots of options. For now, we’ll enjoy the victory and within time we’ll see what’s next. There’s lots of options for him. Callum Smith, Kovalev at 175. He has lots of options. One thing about Canelo is he never shies away from a challenge.
“Canelo’s wish is to unify all the belts. Canelo has expressed interest in fighting in Wembley Stadium in England, Dallas and Jerry Jones. A trilogy with GGG is also possible.”
Eddie Hearn: “I thought it was a great atmosphere and the fight was competitive and close. The best man won today.”
