Sham, honestly, you've known me a long time. I just put forward my argument, while arguing my case against others who disagree. Just like others argue with me who disagree. Believe me, my opinion is nothing more than an opinion. It's not that I'm right or wrong, I'm just stating an opinion, and arguing it.
I think a lot of the problem has to do with the Duco hype, and Joe's ranking. Neither are deserved at this point in his career. I don't care if Martz is 6'7.5" or 6 feet tall. If you look at the top ten, I'd say less than half are taller than Parker. It's mainly Wilder and Klit. Fury will be out of the top 5 when Klit finishes with him. Jennings isn't tall. Nor Povetkin. Martin, and Glazkov are average height for a boxer.
I will agree with you that Martz is less than Meehan. When Stu Duncan says that Martz is as good as Saglam, Certo, or Pettaway, if I were him, I wouldn't say that with any pride. Bergman, the southpaw, I haven't seen yet.

Die you are good at what you do and course your comments about drunks on here were directed at faimoko, I believe he's out of rehab for the weekend.. should be banned really. 17 years old and should be starting to accumulate some wisdom don't you think....lol
As for Jo, I am shutting off until next year and leaving him to the exploited public (none of it his fault we all know) when I expect to see him fight competitive opposition and bring some excitement back to a few of us grumpy old bastards...

my issue is not with the choice of opponent so much. But more with the hype around the opponent.
I understand that this early in ones career, opponents are hand picked for their certain skills and attributes to test your fighter out in certain areas they have been training for. but pulling the wool over the publics eyes about the threat of opponent doesn't sit well with me.
I don't remember being sold this BS when David was starting out. in saying that, he fought a lot out of the states so we didn't get a lot of the build up to the early fights.

A lot of international observers are starting to look at Parker as a real contender.
The door is wide open for his kind of HW - so I think some real excitement is in store.
He is fast, big, aggressive and has a good brain on him.
I think next year we are going to be impressed. And I am fine with a few Tomato cans in his early career.
And yes - Tua did it too. They all do. And the hype as well. Part of the game.

Ah fai, you know me so well.
OK Nigs, Sham, and a few others. Let's look at it from Duco's perspective. Duco is having trouble getting quality fighters in NZ (according to their matchmaker, Stu Duncan). They are in the money business. They finally find an opponent that KB likes, a tall opponent and a southpaw. They need to fill the seats and PPV subscribers. They have two guys that are average who are available. They take them. Now they need to promote Fight for Life and Samoa. How do they promote it? Do they say these guys are average, and Joe should KO them in a couple of rounds? Or do you promote them as a mountain man, standing 6'7 and a half, and a southpaw who's had a great record of late? And, even though $40 for PPV is excessive, why charge less, make less profit, if the punters are willing to pay it?
Remember, even though Martz or Bergman haven't beaten anyone in the top 20, neither has Parker, unless Tupou snuck in there somehow. What would I do if I were Duco? I'd lower the fee to $25, put on a sterling undercard with great match-ups, and do exactly what they are now doing. If people want to pay the money, they will. If not, they won't watch it.
