Alexander Povetkin knocks out Johann Duhaupas cold
WBC #1 heavyweight Alexander Povetkin (31-1, 23 KOs) scored a sixth round KO over last minute sub WBC silver titlist Johann “Reptile” Duhaupas (34-4, 21 KOs) at the Ekaterinburg Expo Center in Ekaterinburg, Russia. In the first few rounds Povetkin outboxed the slower Duhaupas, making smart engagements. At the end of round four Povetkin unleashed a flurry of punches upon Duhaupas ending the round strong. At the last seconds of round six, Povetkin landed a vicious left hook, knocking out Duhaupas cold just a moment before the bell rang.
The time was 2:59.
Duhaupas stepped in after Bermane Stiverne pulled out due to Povetkin failing a drug test and the WBC withdrawing world heavyweight interim title sanction as a result.
