Saunders dethrones Lee to win WBO middleweight title
Billy Joe Saunders (23-0, 12 KOs) won a majority decision to dethrone WBO middleweight champion Andy Lee (34-3-1, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. Saunders dropped Lee twice in round three, but Lee managed to survive the round. Lee recovered and the bout settled into a tactical duel after that with very few exchanges. Lee was busier in the late rounds. Scores were 113-113, 114-112, 115-111. The knockdowns were the difference.

Ruiz is another guy who needs to be kept on the heavyweight radar. Parker has sparred with him a lot in Vegas. Ruiz is a brawler:

Andy Ruiz headlines on UniMas Jan 16

On Saturday, January 16th, UniMas will broadcast a “Solo Boxeo Tecate” card featuring unbeaten Mexican heavyweight Andy Ruiz (26-0, 17 KOs), who continues his return up the ranks following a 9-month layoff against an opponent to be named soon. In 2015, Ruiz scored dominating unanimous decision wins against Raphael Zumbano Love and Joell Godfrey. The event will take place in Dallas, Texas, at a venue to be announced shortly.

Ortiz up 13 spots to no.7 on Boxrec, Parker down 1 to 11.
No arguments from me - Ortiz looked powerful and skilfull. I wouldn't want JP to fight him just yet, but there's only a few of those.
Fury, Povetkin, Wlad, Wilder, Joshua and maybe Teper.
I think JP is nearly ready for the rest.

I don't really get what the fuss is about with Ruiz Jr. I must be missing something. His last 2 fights were very average. AJ, Martin and Molina all KO'd Zumbano Love (AJ in 2 rounds) and Ruiz couldn't. A decision against Godfrey (who's lost 6 of his last 7) wasn't that encouraging either. It kind of looks to me, that by getting him to lose weight and get (sort of) in shape, he's lost a bit of power.

I think fightnews needs to update their rankings page.....

It's more his style, Gothe. Ruiz is one of the few that really comes at you. A little like Tupou. But yeah, his losing weight might have cost him some power. I agree, the guys you mentioned need to be avoided until necessary.

Yeah, fightnews has had that page up for way too long.

Top Rank certainly aren't rushing Ruiz Jr. into big fights.
Next up - also on 16/1, he's fighting 211th ranked, 6"1, 39 year old, "Danny Boy" Batchelder

Glazkov, Martin Quotes
Two heavyweight title fights will take place on one history-making night on January 16 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In addition to the WBC heavyweight title fight between world champion Deontay Wilder (35-0, 34 KOs) and Artur Szpilka (20-1, 15 KOs), undefeated heavyweight challengers Charles Martin (22-0-1, 20 KOs) and Vyacheslav Glazkov (21-0-1, 13 KOs) meet for the vacant IBF version of the same world title.

Charles Martin: ”I’m feeling really blessed to get this opportunity. I want to become a world champion so I can go down in history as a top heavyweight. Glazkov is a great fighter. He’s undefeated, so I know it’s going to be a tough fight, but I’m coming in to be victorious. I’m getting ready and training hard so I can go out there and get that win.”

Vyacheslav Glazkov: “I am looking forward to getting back in the ring and finally getting my opportunity to fight for a world title. I want to thank everyone who helped me get to this place in my career.”

Promoter Lou DiBella: “There has not been a heavyweight title fight in Brooklyn in 115 years. On January 16, there will be two.”

Interesting. AJ now saying he doesn't want Chisora. Contradicts what Eddie was saying - sounded like the fight was sorted. Must be due to Teper getting busted.
Chisora v Helenius 2 for the EBU, and AJ fighting Euro opponents (e.g. Wach, Duhaupas, Charr etc.) and then fighting the winner mid-late next year.

Don't put this on your prediction page yet NakiFan but IF;
Wilder KO's Szpilka
Glazkov pts Martin
Wilder pts Glazkov
Fury pts Wlad

Fury v Wilder for all the belts (with a few voluntary defenses thrown in in between?)

Imagine being Povetkin or Ortiz in that scenario - the "unification rule" taking away their mandatories.
IF the crazy scenario happens, Parker or AJ could have to fight an eliminator against Ortiz, Povetkin and/or each other, late next year/2017, before they get a title shot (which would make for some great fights).

Hopefully my crystal balls aren't made of the same glass as David Price's chin.. (who could feature in the Euro or against AJ)

Ah, with drug cheats, fighters giving up alphabet titles, anemic ex champs, injuries, co-champs, and political maneuvering, who knows who will fight whom in 2016. But I've got my money on Stu and Duco. But not too much, you understand?
