Whyte (27-1, 18 KOs) is taking what he hopes is his final fight before challenging for the WBC heavyweight title against the winner of the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder trilogy match. Povetkin (35-2-1, 24 KOs) has other ideas, as he wants to be the one that meets up against the Fury-Wilder 3 winner, and he’s in the position to earn that fight. All Povetkin needs to do is defeat Whyte, 32, and he’ll be locked in as the new WBC mandatory challenger. As for why Joshua is talking about socking Whyte in his gob, it’s hard to say. All the trash-talking that Whyte has done over the years might have gotten on Joshua’s last nerve. Joshua already thrashed Whyte in 2015 in stopping him in the seventh round. While some would agree that Whyte has improved since then, but so has Joshua. “I might get in there and give him a punch as well,” Joshua said to Sky Sports. “You’re getting me psyched up now.” Most boxing fans would agree that Joshua’s personability has changed lately, as he’s not afraid to voice his opinions about different fighters now. Before, Joshua seemed to have an internal governor that would prevent him from speaking his mind. Not anymore. AJ isn’t bashful now in telling it like it is about fighters, and it’s refreshing. At least now, we know what Joshua really thinks instead of us just guessing. “He might get a box if he does that,” Whyte said to Sky Sports. “If he does that, he might get a box, there and then, one box. “He thinks it’s a game, but I don’t play games with these guys. They think it’s a game, scream, and shout and get in each other’s faces, but if he does, he will get a box. He just talks a lot of c**p. I’m sick and tired of all these guys that’s talking, talking, talking all the time.” Is Whyte On Joshua’s Level? In a fistfight, Joshua would be a real handful for Whyte, and it could end badly for him. If Whyte still has his gloves, he won’t stand a chance against Joshua with his bare fists if he jumps into the ring and starts teeing off on him. Whyte is a good B-level fighter, but he’s proven repeatedly that he doesn’t possess the talent that we see from fighters like Tyson Fury and Joshua. Even Deontay Wilder would be a huge headache for Dillian. Promoter Frank Warren said earlier today to BT Sport that he would like to match his fighter Daniel Dubois against Whyte. In a fight between those two, most boxing fans would favor Dubois to win. Dubois would be too strong and too big for Whyte if that fight ever went down.

Heavyweight Otto Wallin (21-1, 14 KOs) was victorious when Travis Kauffman (32-4, 23 KOs) suffered a shoulder injury. Kauffman gamely continued with one arm until the fight was stopped by referee Michael Ortega at 2:32 of round five. Wallin, returning to the ring for the first time since he nearly defeated Tyson Fury in September 2019, was in command from the beginning.

Heavyweight Travis Kauffman retires
Heavyweight Travis Kauffman (32-4, 23 KOs) announced he is retiring from boxing. Just days ahead of his 35th birthday, Kauffman re-tore his left labrum at the start of the fifth round against Otto Wallin on Saturday night. He was fighting for the first time in five years and seven fights without his trainer Naazim Richardson, who died unexpectedly last month. “I tore my left labrum getting ready for the [Luis] Ortiz fight,” Kauffman said. “Like a dummy, I waited five months to have surgery on it after the Ortiz fight [December of 2018]. I started feeling better and was going to do a tune-up fight in March, but then COVID happened. This opportunity came up and I didn’t want to pass it up and I felt good. In the first round I hurt it. I felt it, but then it went away and I thought maybe it’s just my mind and it went away. Then in the fifth round I heard it and that was it. It was torn again. “I’m done. I’m retiring. I have kids. I’ve been doing this a long time,” Kauffman said.

New opponent for Dubois
Heavyweight Daniel Dubois will now defend his WBO International title against Ricardo Snijders at BT Sport studios on Saturday August 29. The British and Commonwealth champion was due to face Eric Pfeifer in a behind closed doors showdown, but issues with the Germans medical have derailed those plans. While it’s a blow for Londoner Dubois (14-0, 13KOs), Dutch title holder Snijders (18-1, 8KOs) has jumped at the chance to gatecrash the world rankings. Dubois, 22, hasn’t boxed since last December and needs to sharpen his skills ahead of his highly anticipated showdown against Joe Joyce, scheduled for London’s O2 on Saturday October 24. Promoter Frank Warren said: “Of course it’s a disappointment that we have had to make a late change, but the most important thing was getting Daniel a solid test. “We’ve had Snijders training for weeks getting ready for this fight on the off chance there was an issue, and thank God we did. “Pfeifer‘s team didn’t submit his MRI on time and given the current circumstances we couldn’t stand for the uncertainty or take the risk that the fight would be pulled at the last minute. “Daniel hasn’t boxed since last December, some eight months ago. That’s a long time, especially for Daniel who has always been active. “Daniel trained at home with his sister and younger brother during lockdown and he has been back in the gym with his trainer Martin Bowers for several weeks. “Joe got an impressive win last month, so this is Daniel’s chance to show what he’s made of. “Of course my nerves will be on edge a bit next week. “They were until Joe came through against Michael Wallisch, and until Daniel’s arm is raised after the Snijders fight it will be the same. “Snijders fancies the fight and was happy to say ‘yes’ and jump at the opportunity of his career. He’s coming up from Cruiserweight and wants to follow in the footsteps of fighters like Usyk, Haye and Bellew.” Snijders, 26, turned professional in January 2016 and little more than two years later claimed the Dutch title. Seven of his last eight wins have come inside the distance, and knows he will need his power to hold off Dubois. In his last outing, Ricardo knocked out Istvan Kun inside two rounds. Warren rates Dubois as the finest prospect in the Heavyweight division and the world governing bodies appear to agree. Dubois is currently ranked number three for Anthony Joshua’s WBO belt and is at seven for the WBC title that is held by his Frank Warren stablemate Tyson Fury. Warren added: “Providing Daniel can solve this Dutch puzzle, we can push on with the Joyce fight and then we can hope for a world title fight next year as a mandatory contender.”
