Dubois: I would have to halt The Juggernaut

Heavyweight Daniel Dubois suspects he would require one of his trademark KOs in order to secure victory over potential British title opponent Joe Joyce.

Dubois and the Olympic silver medallist have been mandated by the board to battle for the British heavyweight title, once the 21-year-old has hopefully attended to business against Richard Lartey at the SSE Arena, Wembley on April 27.

The 33-year-old Joyce has recorded eight stoppages from his eight fights in the professional ranks and possesses a style based on a relentless work rate.

“He looks to overpower people, out-punch you, out-work you sort of thing, so he is busy, non-stop,” considered the 10-0 Dubois, who has nine KOs to his name. “He is a challenge for anyone who faces him.”

A challenge that Dubois insists he would have no issues in overcoming.

“No, not at all. I’ll work even harder than I am now to beat these sort of guys. The better the guys I am facing, the better I will perform.”

Despite his perfect stoppage ratio, Joyce isn’t considered to be amongst the division’s most concussive punchers. Dubois, however, contends this view stems more from his accuracy than his punch potency.

“It depends who he is in with. I am sure he has got enough strength in his punches to drop some people, but he doesn’t seem to be the most accurate puncher.

“That is something I am pretty good at and you will see that from how the fight turns out, if it happens.”

So if a fight with Joyce is booked in, assuming Lartey is successfully accounted for, Dubois indicates that he would have to take a shortcut for the fight to fall in his favour.

“Yes, if I was to win the fight, I would definitely have to put him over or stop him.”

I think Dubois Is a dark horse for being a very serious force in the division. He's so young and I'm seeing notable improvements from him fight by fight.

He absolutely manhandled Cojanu which isn't easy as we saw with Parker, I was quietly impressed with that performance

Shocker: Mario Heredia defeats Samuel Peter

In a huge upset, journeyman heavyweight Mario Heredia (16-6-1, 13 KOs) derailed the comeback of former WBC heavyweight champion Samuel “The Nigerian Nightmare” Peter (37-7, 30 KOs) with an eight round split decision on Saturday night at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The 38-year-old Peter dropped Heredia with a right hand in round three, but Heredia came back to often outwork Peter the rest of the way. Scores were 77-74, 76-75 Heredia, 79-72 Peter.

Peter, who had been inactive in 2017 and 2018, started his comeback in February getting a quick knockout win. This loss to a fighter who entered with a 2-5-1 record in his last six bouts was unexpected.

The U.S. debut of undefeated Swedish heavyweight Otto Wallin ended in a no decision. Wallin (20-0, 13 KOs) suffered a cut on the side of his head and Nick Kisner (21-4-1, 6 KOs) suffered a cut over his right eye from a round one headbutt. Kisner stated he couldn’t see and the bout was waved off.

Taped the fights above. Don't understand the big interest in David Allen. He's lost 4 fights, and beaten no one of note. Too easy to hit, and Browne caught him with some nice uppercuts, which is bad because Browne was so slow.

Chisora fight boring as Gashi refused to engage.

Andy Ruiz steamrolls Dimitrenko in five

By Miguel Maravilla at ringside

Heavyweight Andy Ruiz Jr. (32-1, 21 KOs) of Imperial Valley, California stopped Germany-based Russian Alexander Dimitrenko (41-5, 26 KOs) in five rounds in his PBC debut in the co-feature bout. Dimitrenko popped the jab early in the opening round as the shorter man Ruiz stalked going to the body and finished the round strong. Attacking the body in round two, Ruiz stayed on top of Dimitrenko. Continuing to stalk in the third, Ruiz landed a chopping right, shortly after a short right hand found its mark as Dimitrenko was momentarily staggered. Staying busy in the fourth Ruiz kept backing Dimitrenko, who continued to just work off the jab. A chopping right hand in the fifth followed by a straight right got Dimitrenko’s attention as Ruiz kept up the pressure. After the bell Dimitrenko went to the corner and could not continue. Referee Ray Corona waved it at the end of the fifth.
