Stiverne Hires Prince and Dubin - Will NOT Allow Wilder-Ortiz

Earlier today, BoxingScene.com's Keith Idec first reported that there are ongoing negotiations to finalize a fight between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) and undefeated puncher Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs).
The two sides are trying to lock the fight down for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, more than likely for the date of November 4. Promoter Lou DiBella, who works with Wilder, has placed the venue on hold for that date.
A few months ago, Ortiz brought in Al Haymon as his adviser - and that set the stage for a future showdown with Wilder, who is also represented by Haymon.

But there is one big problem in making that fight a reality - Wilder owes a mandatory defense to Bermane Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs).
Apparently there are ongoing discussions between Haymon and Don King, Stiverne’s promoter, to work out a step-aside agreement - where Stiverne would receive a reasonable fee to allow Wilder-Ortiz to go forward.
BoxingScene.com has since been informed that Stiverne has hired the managerial team of James Prince and attorney Josh Dubin.
Prince and Dubin are best known for their work with light heavyweight champion Andre Ward, Olympian Shakur Stevenson and heavyweight Bryant Jennings.
Based on what BoxingScene was told, Stiverne and his management have not given King any permission to negotiate a step-aside fee - and further, they have zero interest in working out a step-aside agreement.
Stiverne wants to fight Wilder next and his handlers are ready to legally challenge the possibility of being stepped over for Ortiz. They plan to do everything possible, pursuant to their boxer's mandatory status, to ensure their fighter gets first crack at the WBC title.
The big issue in making Wilder vs. Stiverne - is finding a television outlet willing to pay for it. Wilder won a clear twelve round unanimous decision over Stiverne in January 2015 to capture the title. He's made five defenses of the belt. Stiverne's handlers view the TV situation as "their problem, not ours."
Stiverne was scheduled to face Alexander Povetkin in a final WBC eliminator last December in Russia. The fight was canceled at the last minute after the WBC was advised that Povetkin had failed a pre-fight drug test.
Back on February 26th, the World Boxing Council ordered the Wilder-Stiverne rematch. Stiverne has been out of the ring since a November 2015 decision win over Derric Rossey.

Jarrell Miller just defeated Gerald Washington with Washington's corner pulling him out at the end of the 8th round. Good performance from Miller I thought and suprisingly had far better stamina that Washington despite being 300 pounds. Miller showed that he does belong in the division.

Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller, an undefeated heavyweight from Brooklyn, kept his perfect record intact with a eighth round technical knockout win round against former title-challenger Gerald Washington on Saturday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY. The fight had ebbs and flows where both men hurt the other but it was after the eighth, when Miller (19-0-1, 17 KO’s) once again rocked Washington, that Washington’s corner decided to call a halt. There were no knockdowns in the fight, which was scheduled for ten rounds.

Washington (18-2-1, 12 KO’s) outboxed Miller in the first as “Big Baby” ineffectively attempted to cut off the ring in search for a big punch. Miller had a much better round in the second after he opened up with combinations to the head and body. Washington was stunned by a few punches, particularly a hard right at the end of the round.
A right-uppercut combination in the fifth hurt Washington but Washington connected with a series of hard combinations in the beginning of the sixth. Miller shook his head in defiance but he was clearly rocked by Washington’s uppercuts and hooks. But Miller badly hurt Washington at the end of the round with a series of hooks while both men fought in the corner of the ring. When Miller repeated the same success at the end of the eighth his corner waved the fight off.
The bout was Washington’s first since a February knockout loss to WBC heavyweight title-holder Deontay Wilder.

WBC Trying To Reach Agreement Between Wilder, Ortiz, Stiverne

World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman is trying hard to work out a deal that accommodates all of the involved parties in the ongoing tug of war for the WBC heavyweight title.
As first reported on BoxingScene.com, WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder (38-0, 37 KOs) is hoping to have a fall showdown with undefeated contender Luis Ortiz (27-0, 23 KOs). The fight is being targeted for November 4th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
But there is a big problem hanging overhead, as back in February the WBC ordered Wilder to make a mandatory defense against Bermane Stiverne. Wilder won the title from Stiverne in January 2015.

Wilder, who wants to scheduled a fight as soon as possible, has been out of the ring since scoring a stoppage win over previously undefeated Gerald Washington, on February 25 in Birmingham’s Legacy Arena.
According to Wilder's team, because of Stiverne's inactivity and Wilder's prior one-sided win - none of the major TV network are interested in televising the rematch.
There is also concern from Wilder's camp, after the WBC announced last month that Stiverne missed a drug test for performance enhancing drugs, as mandated by the sanctioning body as part of their Clean Boxing Program in association with The Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency (VADA).
VADA, which oversees the WBC's testing program, counts a missed test as a failed drug test.
BoxingScene reported that Stiverne hired the experienced management team of James Prince and attorney Josh Dubin to ensure that he secures his right to a world title fight.
Stiverne (25-2-1, 21 KOs) has been out of the ring since November 2015, when he got off the floor to win a ten round decision over Derric Rossy.
"We are talking with the members of all the teams, and hope that we can reach a friendly agreement that does not affect anyone," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.
