RE: Joseph Parker - Dodge - 06-21-2015 He'll be the japan champ soon too lol! RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-21-2015 Thought Duco had some money. Maybe they'll pay the Asian sanctioning fee to be the Japanese champ? More belts, more championships, better rankings. Promised Land... RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 06-22-2015 Fujimoto fight is off. Just posted by "crunch" over on checkhookboxing.com (crunch is the name that Stuart Duncan, duco's matchmaker, goes by on that forum): "Joe isn't fighting Fujimoto - he pulled out after Joe's win over Saglam. The reason he was considered in the first instance is because Joe wanted to secure the OPBF title and no other heavyweight from within the region wanted to face him. Lucas doesn't want to defend his Commonwealth & Eurasia titles against Joe so the only other path to a WBC rating was the OPBF - making it a meaningful fight. We have now secured another opponent and an announcement will be made tomorrow. We have to work within the landscape that is out there - Fujimoto is rated 15 by the WBC and qualifies to contest for the title as he is from within the region. Every boxer who is rated suitably was approached and rejected lucrative offers. For the record - Fujimoto is a former 2 time K1 champion who was beating Haumono until Sol got a decent punch in. The fight was offered to Sol before Fujimoto amongst others." RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 06-22-2015 Stuff.co.nz: Japanese fighter Kyotaro Fujimoto 'has run scared' of Joseph Parker Last updated 05:00 22/06/2015 LOGAN SAVORY Dean Lonergan has labelled Kyotaro Fujimoto "gutless" and "a coward" following the Japanese heavyweight boxer's withdrawal from a scheduled fight with Joseph Parker in Invercargill. Parker's promoters Duco Events had agreed to terms and conditions with Fujimoto for him to fight Parker on August 1. However, soon after Parker knocked out German Yakup Saglam in Palmerston North, Fujimoto contacted Duco and advised them he no longer wanted to take the fight on. Lonergan said no reason was given and he could only presume Fujimoto had "run scared". "What's become apparent to us is that he watched the Yakup Saglam fight, where Joseph knocked the guy out in a bit over one round, and all of a sudden they have had a change of heart. It just shows Fujimoto and his camp are totally gutless," he said. "I've never been through it before, and we have signed a lot of fighters. He has just moved up to 15 in the world [in the WBC] and what it says is a lot of people are just flat out scared of Joseph Parker. "He could have asked for a bit more money but there was none of that, he just didn't want to fight. "What it means is when Joseph Parker wins the heavyweight title of the world, we are going to go to Tokyo and we are going to call Kyotara Fujimoto out and knock him out in two rounds in his home town. He is gutless." The Japanese fighter's withdrawal has left Duco scrambling to find another opponent to fight Parker in Invercargill. Lonergan said they were close to announcing a new opponent and felt they would end up with a better fight. "I can promise you Invercargill will end up with a better fight," Lonergan said. "Out of adversity comes opportunity. Fortunately we have been talking to a number of different fighters lately, so we've managed to flush out a whole lot of fighters, and we are really excited by the next guy. "What I can tell you is this, he is the most imposing guy Joseph Parker will have fought. He is raked higher than Fujimoto in one of the organisations, so he is top 15 in the world. He is someone that can really assist us if we take out the win." Fujimoto was originally seen as an ideal fight for Parker. It was unlikely the Kiwi would have had any problems beating the Japanese fighter, but it could have moved him into the top 15 in the World Boxing Council rankings. Duco have made no secret they want to position Parker for an eventual shot at WBC champion Deontay Wilder. Fijimoto's withdrawal has torn up that blue print, but Lonergan said a win over a new opponent would still help move Parker up the rankings. RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 06-22-2015 Wow. Lonergan doesn't hold back does he? Think he's, rather indelicately, trying to appeal to the Japanese sense of honour, or is that giving him too much credit? RE: Joseph Parker - gothenaki - 06-22-2015 Maybe it wasn't signed in the first place and Duco jumped the gun? They might have agreed terms with the promoters but Fujimoto hadn't signed Bowie Tupou would be a much better test than Fujimoto. Floored Bryant Jennings (unbeliveably called a slip) before he got the fastest 10 count i've ever seen. Bowie got up and looked fine, but the ref couldn't wait to wave it off. Also holds the WBO Africa belt. RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 06-22-2015 Wow lonergan has the biggest mouth and still bluffing the multitudes... RE: Joseph Parker - Dannyboy - 06-22-2015 Lol... no surprises here, I don't believe Fujimoto stood a chance against JP or was the contract signed, and whats the bet someone has paid Fujimoto MORE money to fight elsewhere. Duco are bluffing, bobbing and weaving their way into a corner. Got to relinquish the purse strings to get decent fighters now. When will they learn!! RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-22-2015 Yep, Lonergan is a loud mouth. But remember, KB used to do the same thing to Rahman when he was with Tua. KB was always running his mouth. And Tyson had Stanley ?, the guy in the camouflage uniform, who used to show up at press conference and harass LL. I remember him when I was in Vegas for the LL vs Tua fight and he did it. Not to mention Don King. Boxing does have its share. |
