RE: Joseph Parker - faimoko - 06-19-2015 is Yakup Saglam really the champ in Germany? German fighters are tough people i didnt believe this guy..he didn't even offered JP competition.. promised land is a made up story in the bible to guide the ship lol RE: Joseph Parker - Dannyboy - 06-19-2015 AS gothenaki suggested, JP does get a little of the 'red mist' at times, and this is something KB has been working on. The 'red mist' moments are testament of how much JP has to learn, as we know its all about staying calm in those heated exchanges, especially when you're on the receiving end! I do believe KB is good enough to take JP to a title shot, the relationship works well and there is definite improvement happening. JP needs to keep fighting guys ranked between 15 - 30, they need to hand-picked and they need to be experienced, over the hill durable guys. He needs rounds under his bout and he needs to learn off these guys. As for Leapai and Meehan, these need to be 3-4 fights away, and they do need to happen. He will beat these guys well and would probably do it today, but a couple more fights first would be the ideal before he fought these two guys. ...And for the record, he ain't gonna learn squat off the Fujimoto fight!! RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-19-2015 The Fujimoto fight is for recognition and ranking in the top WBC 15, which is what KB said. Maybe he will learn to keep his left up and his jab coming straight back in the fight. Better than learning it in sparring. When he makes his run in a years' time, it would help if he were ranked by the WBC. I agree, Dannyboy, he needs to fight guys in the top 15-30, but I would bring it down to the top 10-30, and even a guy in the top ten if he is hand-picked. As you implied, the opponent is as important as the ranking, if not more so. For instance, I believe he can beat Glazkov?, who is in the top 3 in one alphabet. But he'd get KO'd against Povetkin, Wilder, Browne, big hitters who know how to box. BTW, the only person in NZ hyping Parker is Lonergan, who knows nothing about boxing. Yep, Saglam is Germany's champ, Fujimoto Japan's champ. World War II all over again. RE: Joseph Parker - gothenaki - 06-19-2015 (06-19-2015, 11:44 AM)faimoko Wrote: is Yakup Saglam really the champ in Germany? German fighters are tough people i didnt believe this guy..he didn't even offered JP competition.. The guy Saglam beat for the "vacant German GBA heavyweight title" has lost 11 of his last 14 fights and is ranked 597 by boxrec (and 41 of 56 in Germany), so to say it's a paper title is being generous RE: Joseph Parker - Veritas - 06-19-2015 First off, the title/belt that Saglam fought for to become 'German Champion' (I use that term very loosely) had never been fought for before and has never been fought for since - say no more. Bingo! gothenaki you are 100% correct being 'worried that JP has been clobbered by the same overhand right by Nascimento (hurt Parker), Costa Jnr, Saglam, and several times by the Tank' - Skills ARE needed. The promsed land is the World Heavyweight Champion and nothing less. Clips from the linked Manawatu Standard.. 'Yakup Saglam was supposedly the toughest opponent Joseph Parker had faced... We can never be sure of the worth of opponents brought in to pave the upward path of a future title challenger...The question of Saglam's ring cred was asked of Parker after the fight and one of his miffed minders, Dean Lonergan, quickly interjected to say anyone would have bit the dust under Parker's avalanche...Boxing is such a convoluted world of international organisations it is hard to know what being the German heavyweight champion means... Parker though does have mesmerising hand speed.' This article was obviously writen by a chap who can see the truth but is too unsure - because he lacks boxing nous - to fully reveal it. So, opts to maintain the pretence that all is fine.. The article photo of Parker displays a very uncomfortable and novice stance. Parker should, under no circumstances, ever be postured this way - head high, elbows out, both arms flaying.. skills ARE needed. The Duco circus reminds me of the tale by Hans Christian Anderson - The Emperor's New Clothes. A vain emporer is swindled by two tailors who promise to weave him the finest suit ever made which is invisible to those who are unfit for their positions, stupid, or incompetent.. Anyway, once the suit is completed the Emperor parades himself before his subjects and no one dares to mention that the Emperor is naked for fear of being labelled a fool.. You know the story. The vain Emperor is Duco, the tailor is KB, the fine suit is JP and I feel like the child who does not understand the pretence and calls out that Duco's fine suit is not what we are led to believe. It may have been Shamrock who mentioned that the general public just do not understand boxing - and he is so right - they don't have a clue. So, when Duco spin the wool over their eyes they literally lap it up. I must say that this small group does seem to get it and definately see much more than most. I'm nourished by your views. V. RE: Joseph Parker - Dodge - 06-21-2015 Here's some of the article Veritas was referring to in the manawatu standard. Interesting Jimmy Thunder had a fight in Manawatu i don't know if it was while he was pro he was talented too but also had some flaws: the jam-packed night of boxing extravaganza in Arena 2 on Saturday night, my only sliver of doubt was about the old Turk. Yakup Saglam was supposedly the toughest opponent Joseph Parker had faced. But all Parker did was bash Yakup about the face like a Gatling gun and the white towel came whooshing in from Saglam's corner. We can never be sure of the worth of opponents brought in to pave the upward path of a future title challenger. We do know the Parker camp could not afford a loss at this stage of his career. It would railroad everything. The question of Saglam's ring cred was asked of Parker after the fight and one of his miffed minders, Dean Lonergan, quickly interjected to say anyone would have bit the dust under Parker's avalanche. Saglam was obviously in his career twilight zone at age 38 against a fit, young 23-year-old. By day Saglam is an engine fitter. Parker is a fulltime fighter. Disappointing the main event might have been, but at least the invited opponent lasted 45 seconds into round two. Back in 1987, 22-year-old amateur Jimmy Peau, later Jimmy Thunder, fought in the very same Arena (then called the Manawatu Sports Stadium). Almost before our photographer could blink, Peau had knocked cold tubby American Howard Lake in 1 min 15 secs. Boxing is such a convoluted world of international organisations it is hard to know what being the German heavyweight champion means. Saglam has a son at home in Rheinland-Pfalz and his corner man Detlef Loritz certainly wasn't going to risk their man standing up after the clobbering for another dose of anaesthesia. Parker though does have mesmerising hand speed. The Duco people did bring in fighters from overseas and two Australian press reporters flew in to check out The Hornet, Queenslander Jeff Horn, who looked to be of high class they way he flattened Ghana's Richmond Djarbeng. ■Bravo to the Palmerston North City Council through their subsidiary Arena Manawatu for sticking their necks out to get the boxing to the city. While the risk proved to be minimal, the council did undertake to underwrite the venture to get it to Palmerston North for the first time. We hear the guarantee was passed within six weeks in terms of ticket sales and in the end Duco Events sold 780 seats at corporate tables. It brought us a little taste of Las Vegas or Madison Square Garden. Martin Snedden has brought extra professionalism to Duco since he joined them. Boxing can't be get much further from one of his previous jobs at New Zealand Cricket. We understand Duco were easier to negotiate with than the Hurricanes franchise when they bring rugby to Palmerston North.
