RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-16-2015 gothe, they are down on Parker because he's not facing top opposition. In the same breath, THEY are saying he's not ready for top opposition. He's only 23, had 14 fights, what is he supposed to other than KO them. Look at Tua's first 14 fights. Nobodies. THEY say that it'll have a bad ending. Well, Klit was knocked down 11 times before he found Manny and his octopus technique. Tua lost to Barrett--twice, and was knocked down. Parker won't be invincible, and will lose. My issue is that if he's going to lose, let it happen by fighting top ten opposition that is hand picked, rather than a Meehan or someone else who is not ranked but will give him trouble. Sham, no-one asked Minto to get his nose busted in sparring and still front up for the money. His mistake, and Baby Joseph capitalised. Parker plays what's in front of him, and does it quite well. BTW, I see Izu as on the same level as Parker, and would like him to step up as well. The Duco card was good this time. Julius Long was a good addition, and Horn fought a top 15 guy. When Duco gets it wrong, I say so. Right now, they're getting it right. Now, Mr Higgins, if you'll send that check you promised... RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 06-17-2015 Perfectly true gothenaki, they exploiting him alright but not only but also th Nz gullible fight public. Duco and kb making it harder for the general public to get behind him not because of the calibre of his opposition but their bs talk about where he stands in the world. Not everyone is boxing savvy like the rest of you pm here. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-17-2015 True that, Sham. Too early to talk about a glorious future. Exploiting works both ways. Sure, KB and Duco are hyping him to sell tickets. That's what promoters do. Don King comes to mind. But Parker isn't stupid, and he's getting quality training and good size gate and PPV sales. If he wasn't hyped, and Duco just said he was an up and comer, he wouldn't be anywhere near where he is now. And my guess is that he's not doing too badly with the money he's getting paid. I'd say he's getting over $100,000 a year. Just bought a new car. Has sparred with Klit. Where's the one way exploitation? Truth be told, he looked so bad pre-Olympics that I didn't think he'd get this far as a pro. He was pretty ordinary. Some of us on here even questioned whether or not he could be a main event. I say it's a tall poppy issue. Bring down the Kiwi who's doing well. RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 06-17-2015 Who did Julius Long fight die ? RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-17-2015 Izu Sham. I'd like to see him get some decent opposition. Long is a good journeyman opponent, but Quarrie (Invercargill) is a bad, bad match-up. He needs to fight similar competition as Parker. Is Izu with Duco also? Know he's with Barry. Here's a good write-up, along with the fight. Johnathon Banks, Klit's trainer said that from watching Parker in Klit's training camp, that he was on the same level as Joshua and Wilder. Don't think that's true, but I think he's not too far behind. Time will tell. http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/boxing-mma/heavyweight-prospect-joseph-parker-tipped-for-stardom/story-fnhq5ibz-1227398880923 RE: Joseph Parker - tm7 - 06-17-2015 (06-17-2015, 01:38 AM)diehard Wrote: Izu Sham. Is Izu with Duco also? Know he's with Barry. No Izu is not in the Duco stable, not yet at least, he just lives, trains and travels with JP so Duco put him on the cards (for relatively little money I'd imagine, just a guess). I don't think he's on JP's level but he certainly needs better opposition than Quarrie, not disrespect to Will, but Izu will not get any better or higher ranked fighting these guys. If they are even considering signing him in the future, they need to bring over some Aussies for him when he's in NZ. And Barry needs to arrange some fights for him in Vegas instead of just shadowing Parker RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 06-17-2015 Tm7. Please excuse my ignorance. How do u know this? Would his being in Ducos stable be publicly announced? RE: Joseph Parker - justafan - 06-17-2015 Anyone a hear a rumor that Fujimoto has pulled out. I've got a mate that reckons he has pulled out but did not know the reason. Not sure what to make of it... seems really odd two days after the announcement but this guys is not often wrong. But that's not to say he's correct on this occasion. who knows???? RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 06-17-2015 I would think Izu would be with Duco. Who's paying for him to train with KB? And go to Klit's training camp. I can see that he's with KB and Parker on all Parker's undercards, but until Long, he was facing locals. Wouldn't be much money in that. The only other explanation is that KB wants Duco to take care of him financially since he's Parker's main sparring and training partner. Fujimoto pull out? He's a pretty confident fellow, so I doubt it would be because he's had a change of heart. If so, bring on Tupou. RE: Joseph Parker - Veritas - 06-17-2015 Gents, this is a good discussion. First off - David Tua and JP. I agree faimoko, it IS disrespectful to David and unfair on Joseph to compare the two. Tua was and still is the greatest boxing talent to ever come from these shores. He was a total 'natural'- meaning, he was never taught to do the things he did. Sadly, he was still in the ring at the age of 40 and THAT is a crime of the ages. I'm sure the KB split features somewhere on this board, the whole affair was an utter tragedy that saw our greatest ever boxer robbed of his future security. David Tua is to Boxing what Buck Shelford is to rugby - a bloody legend! - and it will be a long time before another kiwi equals his achievements. That said, Duco are already making comparisons to former Heavyweight Champion greats so, the weight of expectation on Joseph is huge - unfair on JP in my eyes. gothenaki asks - 'Are you guys down on it because you feel JP is being exploited?' I agree with shamrocks reply #232 and will add my bit; - I am not happy with Parker's progress on the skills front after 2 yrs tutelage with KB. He went in raw and 2 yrs later is still 'under-cooked'. Parker needs to exhibit more than power to convince me. Even Tyson had skills. Will another two years be enough for KB to upskill Joseph? That's one hell of a risk to take. Why? Simply because there has been too little progress to date. Parker currently lacks too many fundamental skills for Duco's dreams to come true. Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result was Einsteins definition of insanity. Duco need to find someone who can impart the essentials to Parker and fully equip him for the task ahead. A S A P. - I'm down on Duco because they do not see or comprehend my first point. Seems they are intoxicated on easy kills and Colonel Bobs assessment. - I'm down on Duco because they are using Parker as the main act in a travelling circus - hoodwinking fans - painting patsies as champs - further undermining Boxing's credibility. - I'm down on Duco 'cos ca$h comes first. Too many pigs in the trough. For their dreams to come true Parker must come first. Fund him to the title.. don't use him to fund yer hip lifestyles. Duco must find suitable opponents to develop Parker. diehard, I said this in an earlier post - there is a certain demographic that JP needs to work through to; - get the rounds under his belt - challenge and extend him - add credibility to his campaign - avoid an unnecessary loss That is the 'former' contenders, those in their mid to late 30's who, at the least, have some boxing pedigree. Luapai and Meehan are obvious.. If Joseph cannot handle this demographic then all bets are off and the Express is going nowhere. There must be dozens of these guys out there. Duco need to search the planet for them.. Don't spoil the boy with a diet of patsies.. and don't be deluded into thinking that he is ready for anyone at the top table. ------ diehard - I'm on the Parker Express, heart and soul. Just don't want any reckless behavior at the wheel. Parker would have floored Cameron who was very limited and led with his head. Tua knocked out Ruiz in 1 at the age of 23. Ruiz was touted at the time as a serious contender - went on to win, lose and draw with Holyfield. Parker is not at Tua's level at the same age. V. |
