RE: Joseph Parker - NakiFan - 04-26-2016 Battle hardened = Best preparation RE: Joseph Parker - NakiFan - 05-02-2016 What ever happened to recent Joseph Parkers opponents? Irineu Beato Costa Junior - One of the KO's of the year. Parker knocked out Irineu in Dec 2014. Irineu has been busy since then fighting 9 times during 2015/2016. Notable names include David Price, Dillian Whyte and Denis Boystov. All wins credited to Irineu were against local Brazilian opponents. Jason Pettaway- After losing to Parker by TKO in early 2015, Jason fought 3 months later against Oscar Rivas. Rivas dropped Pettaway in round one, then hit him when he was down. Rivas was deducted two points. Rivas dropped Pettaway two more times. Rivas TKO win in Round One. Pettaway hasn't fought since. Yakup Saglam- After losing by TKO to Parker in June 2015, Yakup has been on a 2 fight winning streak against no name local opponents in his native Germany. He has a fight booked for Nov this year against TBA. Bowie Tupou- The infamous skip punch recipient Bowie was KO'ed in spectacular fashion in Round One in August 2015. Bowie recovered to go on to win against his fellow countryman Hunter Sam in Feb 2016 by TKO. No fights scheduled since then. Kali Meehan- A round 3 TKO to Parker has put Kali's boxing career into retirement. His son Willis is carrying on the family tradition with 4 from 4 in his pro career. Daniel Martz- A overhand right finished Daniel in Dec 2015. Daniel has gone on to have a rematch with his countryman Alexis Santos, after Alexis had a RTD decision last time around due to a injury while fighting Martz. Daniel lost to Santos by 7th round KO. Jason Bergman- After defending, and taking the knee constantly during their Samoan bout, eventually losing to TKO in Round 9. Bergman hasn't yet stepped back into the ring in 2016. RE: Joseph Parker - justafan - 05-02-2016 Great post NakiFan, food for thought for those people in NZ who are convinced its just a matter of time until Parker dominates the division! Maybe one day he will but we need to see much more yet before that can be said with any confidence at all. RE: Joseph Parker - African Monkey - 05-02-2016 I was looking at this the other day on boxrec. His oponents seemed to get progressively worse since the Costa fight. RE: Joseph Parker - Infern0 - 05-02-2016 There isn't a legitimate opponent on Parkers record, it's that simple. Casuals got excited about the Meehan fight, but come on now. Takam is several levels up from anyone parker has been in with so this is where we see if he's legit or not. I think he has the natural ability that's for sure, and he's got the fight in NZ so he will be given every possible advantage. He needs to get the job done here. RE: Joseph Parker - tm7 - 05-02-2016 Great stuff Naki, really shines a light on his lack of risk in getting where he has, hopefully he's the real deal and not doing a Demori! RE: Joseph Parker - shamrock - 05-03-2016 (05-02-2016, 08:48 PM)Infern0 Wrote: There isn't a legitimate opponent on Parkers record, it's that simple. Casuals got excited about the Meehan fight, but come on now. So true InfernO. Guys off the street rave over these wins and quick finishes but we'll see what happens with Takam and thereafter. As you say, Jo has all the advantages hereunder. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 05-03-2016 Bowie Tupou isn't legitimate? If Parker beats Takam, people will say that he isn't legit. RE: Joseph Parker - Nigs - 05-03-2016 he isn't. RE: Joseph Parker - NakiFan - 05-03-2016 I just think this shows that over 4 sanctioning bodies, and the level of boxers working their own path towards their goal of having a chance of making it to a belt, that the level of fighter needed to go through to get a chance is low. You can't blame Parker, Barry or Duco for this. Where there is one promotor negotiating to get a fighter organised, there is probably another 10 doing the same thing to the same fighter. Would Parker have done better by living and fighting in Las Vegas? Maybe, but you can't say the States has a strong HW division at the moment considering Martin being exposed so badly, and Brazeale the next best fighter in their ranks heading down the same path. So Parker should have been based in Europe? He would have sunk or swam in that environment. He was a young, Samoan boy at 21 years old. Family and faith being his pillars of strength. Take that away at the early part of his career, who knows how he would of dealt with it... So we are now at the precipice of hitting the big time with a IBF mandatory title shot. If he wins, there are more harder fights ahead of him, and if he loses he is still young and learning and this might open up easier negotiations to get further exciting fights. I for one can't wait! Regardless of the outcome, Parker has lifted the profile of the sport in the country. That is a good thing. |
