RE: Joseph Parker - cranky - 02-17-2016 http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news/12040/10168293/joseph-parker-will-set-his-sights-on-the-winner-of-anthony-joshuas-world-title-fight-with-charles-martin Wants to be mandatory for IBF? Hmm.. If he fought and beat Ustinov (IBF #14) he might even slip ahead of Takam in the rankings... Then eliminator later this year? RE: Joseph Parker - Infern0 - 02-17-2016 Duco need to be quick about things because if not i've got a funny feeling David Haye vs Carlos Takam might be heading to the O2 in may and Parker doesn't need David Haye problems at this stage of his career RE: Joseph Parker - james5000 - 02-17-2016 I'd be very surprised myself and I think David should think twice about taking Takam this early in to his comeback. Stylistically Takam would be a nightmare because he's relentless and Haye hasn't even fought 1 hard round yet. I would be inclined to pick someone who would rather counter punch like a Malik Scott or even a Stiverne or Perez. Scott would be perfect because Haye would get a near guaranteed HL reel KO and he could fight at his own pace get some rounds in at the same time if he wanted to. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 02-17-2016 Joseph Parker wants the winner of Joshua-Martin James Slater - February 16, 2016 - 13 comments As much of a big deal as unbeaten heavyweight sensation Anthony Joshua is in the UK, Joseph Parker, a legitimate contender/threat to any heavyweight you could care to mention, is as big a deal in New Zealand. Parker, unbeaten at 18-0(16) has plenty of good judges believing he is the next dominant heavyweight in a division that is suddenly red-hot again. And Parker, who has been calling out “A.J” for some time now, will continue to target the Londoner, if he beats Charles Martin in April as the bookmakers say will be the case. If not, Parker will happily challenge reigning IBF heavyweight boss Martin. Parker’s promoter, Dean Lonergen spoke with Sky Sports recently, and he outlined the plans for his exciting, powerful fighter: “The IBF mandatory is up, I think, on January 16 next year,” Lonergen said. “If Joseph Parker can get to the mandatory position, which is our goal as well as being the number-one mandatory for the WBO, the IBF champion will have to face him – if he’s in that position – or relinquish the title, and no-one is going to relinquish the title. It’s absolutely a fight we would love to have. If Anthony Joshua wins the fight (vs. Martin), it’s a fight you would have in England. If it’s in England, it would be an absolutely enormous fight. We’ve said we’ll take that fight tomorrow and I understand where Eddie Hearn sits. He’s probably got 100 fighters who want to fight Anthony Joshua, but at the end of the day only one is number-one with the WBO and has got the credentials of Joseph Parker.” Parker, with his blend of speed, two-handed power, conditioning and sheer desire, is arguably the best, or one of the best, young heavyweight hopes on the scene today. Lacking only in world class experience (as is Joshua and, you could argue, is pretty much the case with Martin as well) Parker and his team clearly want the chance to rectify this. Is Parker, who has sparred a lot with Wladimir Klitschko (as has Joshua) ready for the world’s elite? No. But neither is Joshua. It might not matter, as these two young guns could very well rumble, with a major belt on the line in an already sellable match-up, some time next year. Both the New Zealander and the Brit are very much on the radar of one another, and soon fans on both sides of the planet could get to know both young fighters very well. 24-year-old Parker is next scheduled to fight on April 17th against TBA. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 02-17-2016 Smart Deano. This is what he must have been telling kiwi. I said that Parker shouldn't fight AJ unless it's an eliminator or a title. Now we have a possible title fight. Duco would co-promote the fight in the UK Also important to keep Parker's name out there, and Slater from ESB is a good one for that. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 02-18-2016 Should be an announcement about Parker's opponent today or tomorrow, according to a KB tweet several days ago. Here's hoping... RE: Joseph Parker - james5000 - 02-18-2016 Did he take that one down? It only says "Big announcement coming soon #TEAMPARKER" now Hopefully it happens today I was initially thinking Fedosov but that has been ruled out, now my pick is Rossy. Rossy is a good fight for a prospect but tbf he's a stay busy fight for a contender and Joe has just be fighting guys at that prospect level stage. He needs a couple of fights at that contender level at least before he will be ready for a title fight. Better than Rossy and i'll be happy, if it is Rossy then it gets a pass but only just, worse than Rossy and its a fail for me. RE: Joseph Parker - diehard - 02-18-2016 Gotta agree, james. Rossy is a good hit-out, but he needs to have a better opponent. That said, a hit-out with Rossy in April, and an eliminator in July will be ok. RE: Joseph Parker - craigyid14 - 02-18-2016 (02-18-2016, 11:51 AM)diehard Wrote: Gotta agree, james. Rossy is a good hit-out, but he needs to have a better opponent. RE: Joseph Parker - Rusty01 - 02-18-2016 Rossy more credible to me than Glaskov, look up their fight. Durable journeyman. Not an easy fight by any means. Still hoping for top ten... |
