Exactly.  But forget the downstairs part.  Too complicated.  He needs to slip the jab, get inside and flurry him.  Then get back out.  Too many punches and AJ will counter.  And like you say, keep AJ wary of coming foward.

By downstairs I mean body, Parker has been guilty of headhunting too much in his last few fights. AJ I believe needs to be broken down with body shots to get his big arms lowering to open up the chin.

I know.  I worry about Joe going to the body.  He leaves himself open and lunges.  Sure, if it's available, hit it.  And with AJ's reach advantage, he'll get hit.  If he hits the body, he needs to hit it and get out.  JP stays and admires his shots too much.

Infern0, what were the odds?  Will you be sharing your winnings?  Boxchat could use your donation.

I only got 7/1 i did it on TAB machibe at the pub

Kevin Barry: Joseph Parker will take 'friggin beating' against Anthony Joshua if movement not right

By: Patrick McKendry

Joseph Parker's trainer Kevin Barry has expressed the importance of speed and movement against Anthony Joshua when the pair meet in a world heavyweight unification fight in Cardiff at the end of next month.

Parker has been hard at work at his Las Vegas camp – losing weight and sharpening up for a fight against one of the hardest punchers in the division.

Barry wants Parker to be slimmer and lighter for the fight at Principality Stadium – about 107kg rather than the 110kg or so he has been in his recent fights – and told boxing blogger BWTM that Parker's movement in particular was imperative.

"If Joe is going to have slow foot speed against Anthony Joshua we're going to take a friggin beating, so it's important that he's lighter in this fight," Barry said.

However, weight loss is important too for Joshua, who looked overly heavy and sluggish in his last fight against Carlos Takam and who has already promised to be in better condition for this one.

"He's been fighting in the 250s [pounds, about 114kg]. I know he's going to be fighting in the low 240s [about 108kg] for this fight and he needs to be," Barry said.

Team Parker recently released a video of him training on the pads, and the Kiwi WBO champion is punching in combinations and with good movement of head and feet.

Barry said Parker's speed was returning, adding: "People see him and say 'yeah, he's fast', but it's not until you're actually in front of him do you realise just how fast that hand speed is. I think that will definitely be a secret weapon for us."

Im not even sure about joes handspeed anymore. Maybe losing weight will bring it back but he's not looked remarkable in that department for a while. Ruiz jr was measurably faster

RE: Joshua vs Parker betting - diehard - 02-23-2018

Weirdly, Parker and AJ may end up about the same weight, around 240. Hand and foot speed are essential for Joe, but he has to HIT HIM.

RE: Joshua vs Parker betting - bopman - 02-23-2018

Yeah Inferno Joes hand speed was at his best against Minto and that's ages ago lol. Against Meehan it was there, with some good feints as well. Ruiz was quick inside.

RE: Joshua vs Parker betting - Boxingfan25 - 02-23-2018

I agree. He was like lightning against Minto and has slowed down a lot since then and Ruiz hands were noticeably faster. I really hope Joe can get that Speed back for the AJ fight.
