RE: Heavyweight Division - bart - 04-12-2023 I feel with Usyk against guys of his size and reasonable speed (Bellew) he can look to struggle early but eventually catches up. Verus larger units like AJ who don't have the speed -footwork etc he can dominate them more off the ball so to speak. AJ was confused which in turn drained him physcially and mentally, Fury is different to AJ but would still have to deal with the usual angles that Usyk employs + the southpaw problem RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 04-12-2023 Also, Briedis gave him all he could handle. So is Usyk better suited fighting heavyweights, or it doesn't matter because he's improved since his cruiser days? So is Usyk better suited fighting heavyweights, or it doesn't matter because he's improved since his cruiser days? For me the jury is out on Usyk vs super heavyweights. Joshua, to me looked very poor in his other fights around the time he fought Usyk. I feel if Ruiz had stayed away from that fatty lamb and cous cous that he was hoovering up by the bucket load in Saudi (Steve bunce said before the fight happened that Ruiz Jr was pigging out at the Saudi buffets to a shocking level) , he would have beaten Joshua in the rematch too. Vs Pulev Joshua looked lethargic and had to take half the fight off following an early barrage. And against Franklin he looked as poor as he ever has, he arguably hurt Usyk worse than he did Franklin. Otherwise we have Usyk WSB win over Joyce, which had looked good until this weekend. I still need to see more from Usyk. The AJ wins really dont impress me.l because I belive they were wins over a shot fighter who had the belts through luck and circumstance. The problem with him and all the other heavyweights tbh is they barely fight, I feel there's a good amount of talent in the division Fury Usyk Wilder Zhang AJ Hrgovic Javalov Makhmudov Parker Ruiz jr Sanchez Anderson Gassiev That's a bloody decent list right there, bloody decent, it's a hell of a lot better than the division was when klitschko was ruling over it and half the top 10 was leftovers from the lennox Lewis era or blown up old cruiserweights Yet we only see a scant handful of fights per year between them, where at least klitschko was active. RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 04-19-2023 Infern0, so the verdict is out on Usyk and AJ? How about Fury, who all but lost to Wallin? And Wilder, who KO'd twice by Fury? And of course JJ got beaten up over the weekend. Gotta say, the heavys are a crap shoot now. Yeah, the heavys protect themselves and don't fight so often. RE: Heavyweight Division - bart - 04-19-2023 AJ is gone mentally- I don't see him getting in a ring with Wilder or if he does he will fight afraid and lose in 3. The up and coming guys like Anderson are interesting but unproven and no one rated in the top 10 is keen to hand them an opprtunity to prove themselves and take their ranking. So those types will flounder until the top 4 Fury, Usyk , AJ and Wilder drop off- lose or retire. But plenty of great fights to be made -just look at what we got last weekend- most casuals thought Zhang was a fraud a big Chinese carnival attraction - like Vaulev until he proved them wrong. (sorry to Valuev ...incase he is a member here lol) RE: Heavyweight Division - diehard - 04-19-2023 I don't think AJ is scared unless he's worried about Usyk countering him. Or maybe he is if he wants to face a shot Whyte. All of them have me confused except for Usyk, who will fight anybody. Maybe Wilder will too at this stage of his career. AJ and Fury are the ones that are holding everything up. I don't know what to make of any of those 4 unless they start fighting one another. As I said, Zhang looked bad against Forrest, and had stamina issues. But he sure took it to JJ. Where does JJ go from here? RE: Heavyweight Division - Infern0 - 04-19-2023 On the JJ/Zhang fight, I find this an interesting take, fight film is often divisive, sometimes he's straight up incendiary, but I do think he has a very good brain. I agree with some of his points in this commentary, things I didn't spot the first time around. What do you make of this guys https://youtu.be/l-sr2T7g9AE RE: Heavyweight Division - Infern0 - 04-19-2023 (04-19-2023, 11:34 AM)diehard Wrote: Infern0, so the verdict is out on Usyk and AJ? Fury I belive beats anyone in the division IF his mind is right. Consistency is key and his main weakness is discipline and motivation, it could cost him, I think he's aware of that these days and is very picky about who and when he fights. Remember Wilder 3 he delayed it and John Fury said it was because he wasn't happy with how camp was going. He almost lost that fight also. Wilder, we know he has a liteny of technical flaws, but he invariably lands the right hand, Fury is the only person who's been able to take it so far, but for sure there may be others who can. We need to see the fights. Yeah, JJ was circling into Zhang's power left hand, but I think JJ's biggest problem defensively is his lack of reaction time to punches. Zhang was hitting him with straight left hands early on. JJ had his hands up, but just didn't react. Would Zhang/Fury be a good fight? I don't hugely rate Zhang, but Wallin troubled him as a southpaw and Zhang does know how to fight. Both are about the same level of hand speed and power. |
