The First World Heavyweight Title Fight in New Zealand
Posted by: Fistic Fury - 11-16-2016, 09:34 AM - Forum: NZBoxChat - Replies (9)

The first "Official" NZ World Heavyweight title fight being the WBF World Boxing Federation was actually in 1993 at the Mount Smart Super Top. This bout was fought between our own Jimmy Thunder and England's Johnny Nelson. Thunder was the holder at the time previously beating Melton Bowen in Australia. You could easily argue that it may not have been a genuine world title fight HOWEVER the holders off this belt have included such names as Pinklon Thomas; Joe Bugner; Evander Holyfield; the most fabulous South African boxer Frans Boxer. Ironically the last holder was one Carlos Takam in 2013.

Plan your perfect parker v ruiz event (undercard etc)
Posted by: Infern0 - 11-08-2016, 03:37 PM - Forum: NZBoxChat - Replies (119)

Let's plan the night.

To start with we need a rousing rendition of the classic "welcome home" by Dave dobbyn

Then the lights go on and we have the all blacks in the ring to do a Haka

First fight is jeff horn vs someone good.

Then we have a skit with Peter Jackson and some orcs from lord of the Rings and parker kos the orcs and Valerie Adam's throws a shotput at one.

Next fight is junior fa vs someone good

After that we have a musical performance by six 60 singing their classic "roots" song with pictures of young joseph on screen

Then we have izu vs someone good

Finally the big entrance with full war dances and everything, then sam Neil comes out in his jurassic park outfit and drops some classic lines

then lorde sings the national anthem

Then it's parker vs ruiz

And parker gets KO'd in a round

Kovalev-Ward quotes for HBO PPV fight

HBO Boxing - November 7, 2016 0 Comments

You out-boxed Bernard Hopkins in a terrific fight. Do you think you’ll need to outbox Andre Ward to win the fight or is your power going to be the difference?
Yes, my fight with Bernard Hopkins was one of the biggest fights in my career. Bernard is great fighter so I trained very hard for his fight, before this nobody knew I could box. I am training very hard to improve my boxing skills even more for this fight with Andre Ward. I believe I can knock anyone out, but I also believe I am good boxer. If I knock him out it would be great because boxing fans would be very happy, and me too, but I am training for 12 round fight with Andre Ward, because anything can happen in boxing. If I cannot knock him out then I must be prepared to go 12 rounds with him. He is very good defensive fighter, and difficult to hit. My last fight was against Chilemba, he was also very good boxer. He was difficult to hit sometimes but I was prepared to go distance and used my boxing skills to win fight. This fight with Andre Ward is definitely biggest, most important fight of my career and I will be prepared for him 100%.

Road to Kovalev/Ward, HBO Sports special leading up to their pay-per-view light heavyweight title showdown, debuts Saturday, November 12 at 12:30 a.m. ET/PT on HBO.
Kovalev vs. Ward takes place Saturday, November 19 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and will be produced and distributed live by HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/ 6:00 p.m. PT.
Andre Ward Blog Part 3: Monday, November 7
This is your third fight of 2016 after fighting only three times since 2011. How easy/difficult has it been for you to get back to rhythm? Is the time off good or bad for a fighter?
It varies for every fighter. For me, the rhythm rushes back the moment I step into the ring. My time off didn’t take a toll on me mentally or physically. I don’t poison my body, I don’t drink, smoke or party, so I never worked against myself. Even in my time off, I remained truly dedicated to the sport. I still spent hours upon hours in the gym, even when I didn’t know when I would fight again. That benefited me because when it was time to get back in the ring, there was no rust. I picked up right where I left off.

Look, I’ve been boxing for 20-plus years. That’s a grind. Breaks like that can really benefit a veteran fighter like me because it afforded me the chance to recharge both mentally and physically.
This is my third fight following my return, and I’m at my peak. On November 19, you’ll see an Andre Ward you’ve never seen before.

Joshua-Molina set: ‘Just watch me’ says Molina

By Przemek Garczarczyk
It’s official. Anthony Joshua (17-0, 17 KOs) is set to defend his IBF World Heavyweight title against Eric “The Drummer Boy” Molina (25-3, 19 KOs) at the Manchester Arena on December 10, live on Sky Sports Box Office in the UK and on Showtime in the U.S.
“When it comes to fighting Joshua, many of his opponents were done long before they stepped into ring,” said Molina “’He hits harder than Wilder!,’ he’s this, he’s that. They weren’t ready mentally for Joshua or not ready for the event. I’ve never had this kind of problem. I was slugging with Wilder in his home state, in Alabama. I was fighting Adamek in front of 15,000 fans in Poland. I proved my mental strength before, and I will prove it again in Manchester!”
In the last couple of weeks, we had many conversations about a possible Anthony Joshua bout. You were in, you were out…
…but I always believed that I’m the only logical choice after the Klitschko bout fell through. Even when there were media speculations about this or that name being a favorite, I believed that I will be the last man standing. What was the best in this “yes or no” scenario was a fact, that I was already training for weeks, trying to stay busy, putting together a local boxing show in Texas. No matter what, I wanted to fight before the end of the year. I was spending a lot of time in my gym. Two a day training sessions were a norm. You have to remember, that I was out since the April fight with Tomek Adamek. This Joshua vs. Molina fight would already have happened in the summer if I was injury-free. Now I am.
I never saw you in better physical shape than you were in Kraków. Conditioning was a crucial element in your 10th round knockout. You were still fresh, still strong.
You’re probably right about my conditioning. I want to be around the same weight – 235 pounds, maybe even less – when fighting Joshua. I knew that I will be facing a quick opponent in Adamek. It was a risk to go to Poland, but there was a reason I decided to go there. Not money. The IBF Intercontinental belt was on stake, so I decided that it was worth it, I liked my chances. Although Anthony is a totally different fighter, I want still be fast, react quickly to everything happening in the ring. When I fought Deontay Wilder, I had only 35 days to get ready. It’s about the same now, but thank God that I already had plans to fight in December. But, of course, putting training camp for Joshua, all the logistics, is a different story than getting ready for small event in my backyard.
Your take on “Joshua will take care of him quickly. Too easy”…
Whatever. Whoever it would be after Klitschko, many would still be disappointed – we all knew that. But if you look at the IBF rankings, I was the ONLY logical choice. Simply – I deserved this bout. I told that to the entire world, I told that to my promoter, Don King, I told that to Eddie Hearn. They knew that I will be
ready and willing to fight anyone. No BS. When it comes to fighting Joshua, many of his opponents were done long before they stepped into the ring. ‘He hits harder than Wilder!,’ he’s this, he’s that. They weren’t ready mentally for him or not ready for the event. I never had this kind of problems. I was slugging with Wilder in his home state, in Alabama; I was fighting Adamek in front of 15,000 fans in Poland. Critics shouldn’t assume anything before the fight. In the end, it doesn’t influence me a bit. I have the trust of my family, my circle of friends. I proved my mental strength before. I will do it again in Manchester. Just watch me.
