Didn't realise they'd been offered a World Title fight already, bigger fish to fry than Liam Smith though
Yeah, Stu says they are biding their time to make sure he's ready, and has time to train, before they jump at a title fight. Same with Parker, I guess.
Wow that's crazy if they really did turn down a world title shot at Smith, he's beatable and I don't fancy Horn's chances against any of the others.
Vargas maybe. Not Brook or champion-in-waiting Spence. Yeah, Smith is very beatable. Guess they don't want to rush things until Horn is ready.
Aussie Boxing Update

By Ray Wheatley — World of Boxing

IBF #4, WBO #4 147-pounder, Jeff Horn (14-0,9 KOs) has challenged former WBA 168-pound champion Anthony Mundine (47-7, 27 KOs) but Horn’s promoter Duco Events says Mundine is not worth a million dollars, according to Grantlee Kieza of the Courier Mail newspaper. Mundine was reportedly dominated by Horn in a sparring session.

Former Australian 118-pound champion Andrew Moloney (7-0, 4 KOs) and his twin 122-pound brother Jason Moloney (7-0, 7 KOs) will be in action against Filipino opponents on Friday night at the Malvern Town Hall, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Andrew will face southpaw Cris Alfante (11-5-1, 4 KOs), while Jason takes on John Amuzu (18-1, 16 KOs). The promoter is Peter Maniatis.
———-
Maniatis is planning to be in the Philippines in mid-July to check on WBC #5 Randy Petalcorin, who is training and planning his next bout sometime late July.
Jeff's next fight is on October 22 in Chandler (QLD) according to Stu's FB. Says it will be "a meaningful fight" so looking forward to seeing who it is.

My pick is still Rico Mueller.

Horn to face German Mueller

A world title shot beckons for rising Australian welterweight Jeff Horn if he can keep his undefeated pro boxing record intact next month.

Horn (14-0-1) is locked in to face German Rico Bueller (21-1-1) on October 21 in Brisbane and his promoters say victory could make him the world's second-ranked fighter in his division.

Currently No.4 in the WBO and IBF, Horn stopped American veteran Randall Bailey in April and is aiming to force a mandatory challenge for one of the two belts next year, if not sooner.

Mueller, who has never been knocked out, has been training this year with Manny Pacquiao's coach Freddie Roach, a member of the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

"I had a little look at him last night. He's going to be able to last a lot longer, he's going to have good fitness, good defence, he throws good combinations," Horn said.

"I've just got to use my movement against him and I'll be fine."

It is the start of a more intensive program for the 28-year-old former schoolteacher, who will fight every two months from October in an attempt to build a national profile.

"Danny Green and (Anthony) Mundine have been around a long time, they've done good for boxing. But there are new people coming through now and I think I will be the person to watch when these guys finish," Horn said.

Confirmation of Horn's latest assignment comes at an interesting time in welterweight boxing, with talk current IBF title holder Kell Brook may switch permanently to the middleweight division and vacate his belt.

Brook suffered a broken eye socket in his first career loss on the weekend to Kazakh middleweight Gennady Golovkin.

If he left the division, that could put Horn within touching distance of a bout with up-and-coming American Errol Spence Jr., one of only two fighters ahead of him in the rankings.

"In a perfect world, Jeff will be of equal stature and they can have a long-running rivalry over the time they're in the game," promoter Dean Lonergan said.

In the WBO, Manny Pacquiao - who is three spots above Horn - takes on champion Jessie Vargas for the title in Las Vegas in November.

Horn is anything but peturbed by the lofty company he now finds himself in.

"There is pressure but I thrive for the pressure. I love competition, my friends and family will tell you that," he said.

"All I want to do is win, and that's the plan."
I think its more likely Brook moves to light middle rather than to middleweight.
Jeff Horn the real deal for Australian fight fans, not Mundine-Green, says promotor

Boxing promoter Dean Lonergan has urged Australians fight fans not to be bewitched by the likely hype around a Danny Green-Anthony Mundine rematch and to throw their weight behind welterweight prospect Jeff Horn.

"The Hornet" (14-0-1) will step out in his native Brisbane on October 21 to fight Germany's Rico Mueller (20-1-1), with a victory having the potential to push him up towards the top of the WBO and IBF rankings. He is fourth in both divisions and wants to be No.2 in at least one by the end of the year.

That would put him in line to meet none other than Manny Pacquiao, who currently occupies the WBO No.1 challenger spot behind champion Jesse Vargas, or Errol Spence Jnr, with that bout potentially for the IBF title should Kell Brook move up and out of the division.

The former PE teacher is Australia's best-credentialed fighter and New Zealand company Duco, who swooped in to grab Horn from under the nose of local promoters, believes he can be at the cornerstone of a revamp of the Australian boxing scene in much the same as heavyweight Joseph Parker has done across the Tasman.

The local landscape has tended to revolve around old rivals Green and Mundine, who are set to meet later this year despite being in their 40s and well past any serious world title aspirations. Even footballers stepping out in the ring tend to garner more coverage than the pros.

But Lonergan said Horn, Australia's highest-ranked fighter and thought by many in the game to be our best prospect since Jeff Fenech, would put himself right in the picture if he can continue his rise towards a genuine world championship shot.

"Jeff is two to three fights away, tops, from a world title shot. That's something Australia can get behind. This is the real deal. Neither Anthony Mundine, nor Danny Green, ever won one of the legitimate world titles," Lonergan said.

"Those guys are past it ... good luck to them if they can get a pay day out of it and people take an interest.

"But at the end of the day, Jeff Horn is the real deal. He's 28, ranked in the top 10 of two of the organisations, top 12 of the third one and on his way to a world title shot, possibly against Manny Pacquiao or Errol Spence Jnr. This ain't no bullshit fight.

"We hope to build Australian boxing back up. Jeff Horn is a spectacular talent to start with ... the scene is vibrant, we just need to get the media excited again and hopefully the Australian public."

Horn, a clean-cut London Olympian, took a break in the US after his April stoppage of Randall Bailey but faces a difficult assignment against Mueller, a technical and tough German who has been working with star trainer Freddie Roach.

"He will last longer [than Bailey]. He'll be fit, has good defence and throws good combinations," Horn said. "It definitely could be a war, there could be a lot of trading punches and I'm hoping my movement is going to be better, so I'll be hitting him and he'll be missing me.

"Green and Mundine have been around for a long time and they have done a good job for boxing. But there are new people coming through. I'm the person to watch."

Duco offered a million-dollar purse for Mundine to fight Horn last year but the latter's rise had seen them discount that fight and set their sights on a world title belt.
