Ive said from the beginning the expectations for JP were too high. He was instantly being compared to AJ and people were getting carried away. Their amateur careers told me a lot. Parker lost his qualifier in straightforward fashion to the chinese guy who joshua gave a world star beatdown to in that same olympics.

In boxing you have your pacquiaos, mayweathers and roy jones

You also have your glen johnsons junior witters and lamont petersens.

JP is in the second group and thats fine
No - he is a legit Top 5 heavyweight - maybe a future Top 3.

Don't diss the guy without cause.

Every single HW on the planet would have one of their toughest nights alive with the guy. Give him a break.

You might be right and im also fine with it, hes a hell of a nice kid and works hard to get his wins. But dont forget Glen Johnson knocked Roy Jones Jnr out cold.

I absolutely think he should fight the likes of Fujimoto for his voluntaries. When his next mandatory comes around its likely to be Povetkin/Whyte or Brezeale. Why take those tough fights before then. At that stage all the other belt holders would have faced there mandatories and they can decide if the money/times right to unify.  Professional boxing is a business after all.

(09-27-2017, 10:39 PM)diehard Wrote: [ -> ]That's why I was gutted after this fight, win or lose the decision.  His basic skills are getting worse.  And KB is either hyping him, or delusional.  Solution:  He needs to face average competition, like Kojimoto, Bellew (if he wins), and maybe Hammer.  Then re-assess.

He's a champion now though so he shouldn't get that luxury of facing average competition.  I'm fine with champions facing one tough fight then a softer fight then a tough fight, and so on.  But if you got a belt you need to defend it against the best every other fight in my opinion, not beating up average guys for 4, 5, 6 fights in a row.  If he doesn't, he's fair game for ridicule, just like Wilder has been.

In terms of his skills I think there is raw potential to work with, but I don't think he will get to the very top.  But that's ok, not every fighter can.  I can't see him getting much more polished as a fighter technically.  He's been boxing since a young boy, so any bad habits will be very difficult to undo and he seems very reluctant to jump trainers.  Plus physically, he is going to be at an disadvantage in most fights.  He will be a top ten HW for the foreseeable future, just not number 1.

Also, is he getting heavier?  I heard somewhere that the Fury fight was the heaviest he's been, is that true?

These aren't just bad habits. They are BEGINNER mistakes. Lunging in, poor footwork, head down. going straight back instead of circling an attacking fighter, etc. And his weight. Yes, he's gained a few kilo's. I do think the fight with Fury was his highest weight. But he's so smooth...honestly, I'm an old man, and I'm cut better, and have bigger chest and triceps.

He's competitive against everyone but Wilder and AJ. He needs to work on his skills so that he CAN compete with those two.
Joseph Parker’s three-fight plan leaves Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury out in the cold
PHIL D JAY 27 SEPTEMBER 2017

Title holder Joseph Parker is all set for a top 15 defense in December before the New Zealander embarks on a two-fight mission on UK soil to claim the unified championship of the world.

WBN has been informed that Parker will make his choice from the WBO ratings for a pre-Christmas contest, possibly on home soil or in Japan, before taking on the winner of Tony Bellew’s imminent rematch with David Haye.

Bellew v Haye II is pencilled in for the O2 Arena in December, live on Sky Sports Box Office – in what will effectively be an eliminator for Parker’s coveted strap. The Parker encounter would then take place in March on UK soil, maybe even at the same London venue in Greenwich.

Should Parker come through those two bouts in the next six months, a huge four-belt unification contest with Anthony Joshua lies in wait for the undefeated ruler, currently pencilled in for July at England’s famous Wembley Stadium.

This blueprint would see WBC champion and knockout specialist Deontay Wilder forced to wait until later in 2018 to potentially realise his own dream of adding another crown to his green and gold haul.

‘AJ’ v Wilder is most people’s choice as the biggest top division fight out there, and should Joshua’s mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev go down well in Cardiff this October – as expected, UK fans could see the pair collide at the home of Welsh sport around the same time next year.

Whatever lies ahead, 2018 is set be a huge year for the heavyweights, with Tyson Fury already planning his comeback as the ex-king plots his route to regaining former status.

With Joshua and Parker on their own collision course, Fury may now see Wilder as his best opportunity for future glory, but would need to secure a ranking with the World Boxing Council first and set up a meeting with someone on the WBC ladder at that time.

The likes of Johann Duhaupas, Andy Ruiz, Carlos Takam, Eric Molina and Lucas Browne may be looked upon favourably by Team Fury as Tyson bids to make what would be one of the most remarkable comebacks of the modern era.
I agree Kiwi .Sure he has flaws and isn't a finished article but he is legit top 5
I don't understand why people hate on JP . The last few years hes been fighting a consistently higher level of oponents than anyone else in the division . Most young fighters would still be wrapped up in cotton wool by comparison.
He's conducted himself with class and is making good money. He's picked up a strap along the way which (in spite of all the hate on Duco) is good management .
AJ is the best heavy in the world today , he probably beats Joe easily at the moment. So what , AJ ilikely does the same to every other fighter out there.
Parker is the third best heavyweight out there, after AJ and Wilder. I would say 4th, but I think both Ortiz and Haye are past their prime.

Kiwi,Naki and westie just by your names I can can tell you're proud New Zealanders. You're all blinded by patriotism, as soon as Parker fights a decent boxer (if) he gets beat. That's why you all want him to keep fighting noneties from all corners of the globe....... Worst title reign ever, so far.....

Can't go along with that.

Theres only a handful of guys in the world who would start favourite against Joe , AJ and Wilder would . Most everyone else JP is the favourite or at best it's even money.

It was fine for AJ and Wilder to take their time building experience (and their bank balance ) defending against lesser oponents .
JP shouldn't take an easy voluntary because you think he's no good?
Don't go into management anytime soon.

Worst Reign? There's a truckload of examples from Primo Carnera to Bruce Seldon.
Of late it's Hard to go past Charles Martin
