The "Butcher" retires:

Robert "The Butcher" Berridge Athlete
13 hrs · Glenfield ·
All good things must come to an end, and with that I announce my retirement! Boxing has been a massive chapter in my life and gave it a good run considering I only started at 20 to get fit for football at Northside Boxing, we reached some massive highs a got some good titles and also the lows of losing those titles but was always fun, firstly would like to thank my wife for the unconditional support, my team Vasco for all the work scoring the fights and making sure the deals got sealed, Cleve for all the hours of training and time trying to perfect my boxing style, the corner men Paul Berridge and Rau for always been there ready to help, the sponsors who have been there through everything, Duncan (PCL), Mo (Albany Village Unichem), Scotty (culet), sideline physio, humble underwear, Josh (protectus), Mike (ONE10), Jamie Cameron, Clint and Mel (bluelotus tattoo), Darryl (NZIron) Claire (Jetts fitness) Joe (Goodhome Birkenhead) Steve (Papps nutrition), sorry to the people I missed out but without all these people the work couldn't have been done, and to all the supporters thank you so much for having my back through every fight!! #TEAMBUTCHER
I remember Robert Berridge in his amateur days, I was assistant at Northside Boxing Assn with Peter Derrick. Peter was the greatest motivator while Robert (x Wanganui) was as hard as nails. We traveled the Sth Island.
Robbie's had a great career. Taken it as far as he can go, never made any excuses.

I think he's making the right decision too.
I thought he would go further, to be honest. It may have been the Duco hype, but it all came crashing down with the tall Russian in the US. He fought some really tough fighters, and always gave it his all. I think his power suffered as he stepped up, as his opponents were harder to KO.

He'll go down as one of NZ's toughest fighters. He was a great trainer. All the best to him.
how good is Nik the Greek? undefeated but seems to fight sporadically
Undefeated?  I didn't think so.  He is undisciplined, but a good puncher.

Well, blow me down.  He is undefeated.  He might have lost in some of the cruiser tourneys.  Chris Martin is his trainer, who posts on here sometimes.  Nik is basically a street kid with a good heart.

He's definitely undefeated as a pro. Has fought mostly at light heavy until recently and to best of my knowledge has never fought in a cruiser tournament
To be fear to the kid he has had a lot of injuries and the knee in particular took him out for a long time.
I really like Nik. He let himself go weight and conditioning wise, and took a fight on short notice that many, including himself, thought he lost. I could have been wrong about the cruiser tournament. I was going from memory, which is never good. Just didn't know he was undefeated. He's only fought in NZ, and probably needs to try his luck in OZ. I'll check with Chris and see where he's at.
He's meant to be fighting in Aussie on Saturday, problem with Nik is he loves a beer.....
