I wish I shared the thoughts on Rapira in a good match up... I think he will get drilled ( see what I did there)
Every bone in my body is hoping I'm wrong as he is a top guy but that's the way I see it.
I really hope the high boxing is currently on brings some hype to the national belts and gets them around the waists of the right people.
Good on Maxwell for doing what he is doing, I'm not running him down at all as he's done way more than I ever will and fair play to him for winning a national title. He has lost to some good guys but even in a country like NZ with minimal depth I would like to think our national champ would have a better record of 5-30-2.

Haven't had a chance to see Hemi's video yet but it was obvious he was going to be a lot better than average the night he fought Quarrie in his 3rd ever fight. I guess the next wee while will tell us just how good he is but if Browne gets crushed in his title shot (which I'm sure he will) I think he could be a great fight for Hemi at the end of 2016.

Feilding boxer Ricky Murphy's next fight could put him on the big stage
Auckland-based Feilding boxer Ricky Murphy will fight Taranaki's Daniel Maxwell for the New Zealand PBA light middleweight title on the North Shore next weekend.
Feilding fighter Ricky Murphy's next bout could be the one to springboard him into the big time.

Murphy has his first title fight next Friday when he faces Taranaki's Daniel Maxwell for the New Zealand PBA light middleweight title at the North Shore Events Centre.

Now based in Auckland, Murphy has been a pro for a year and has fashioned a 6-0 record, with three wins by knockout, but winning the belt next week will be a big leap forward in his career.

"It's just a bit of a stepping stone to the next thing," he said. "It would be good to be known as the best in the county."

Murphy is trained by Shane Cameron, who has approached promoters Duco about going on one of their fight cards.

"Everyone wants to fight the person that's got the title and people will have me on their cards," Murphy said.

He hoped the credibility of having a New Zealand title could get him fights in Australia and Southeast Asia, where Asia-Pacific and Pan-Pacific regional titles come up.

The 24-year-old has undergone a 14-week training camp and a strict diet as part of his preparations, so he is hanging out for a beer after the fight.

Maxwell has five wins, 30 losses and two draws, but Murphy didn't think it will be easy against the older fighter despite his record.

"He's the title holder," Murphy said. "I know he's tough, so he'll come to fight for sure.

"He won't just give me the title. He'll make me work for it."

This year Murphy has beaten Jody Allen by TKO at Raumati in March and his last fight was against Australian-based Kiwi Matt Te Paa, where Murphy won the eight-round bout by unanimous points decision.

For next week's fight he'll have to drop a couple of kilos to get to 69.8kg, but won't have any problem doing that and is as fit as he can be.

Murphy had 123 amateur fights before turning professional, for 108 wins and 15 losses.

"It kept me out of trouble in Feilding," he laughed.

A Feilding High School old boy, he moved to Auckland six years ago and is a full-time fighter, as well as working as a trainer at Cameron's gym, which is more fitness based than just boxing.

"This is what I was born to do. I'll keep chugging along."

He is known as "the Ghost" partly because of his pale skin and partly because he is too fast in the ring so opponents have trouble seeing him.

Murphy started boxing at age 8 at under Henry Schuster, who also trained Cameron.

Cameron, who won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal and had a 12-year pro career, and Murphy met while training in Feilding.

The two fighters have had a connection since and Cameron has been mentoring Murphy.

Murphy said Cameron's knowledge is unrivalled and it is an advantage having him as a coach.

Kali says here that Willis is fighting on the October 15 undercard - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoIu_XFnCsI

Hopefully not against Hemi or Izu! We don't want them cancelling each other out just yet.
I reckon rapira/powdrill is a cracking match, nice to see an aussie venturing into kiwi shores. We'll see at what level Sam can mix it.
That's awesome Willis is on the card, I would love to see him forget league for a while and focus on boxing but if he wins back the trust of the NRL the financial security is much more attractive in the short term.
If the attitude his right this boy could be anything in boxing and his Dad has learnt all the tricks outside of the ring with promoters etc so would not let same thing happen again to the next generation.
Agreed justa!

Obviously we've only got one side of the coin but this is already looking like one of the best, if not the best, pro cards I've seen in NZ.

Joseph Parker v Kali Meehan
Jeff Horn
Hemi Ahio
Izu Ugonoh
Willis Meehan
Joe Blackbourn
Bowyn Morgan
Dave Letele v Kaleni rematch
I hope the bottom one is tongue in cheek.
Ah, I don't even mind the Brown Butterbean vs Kaleni rematch. Was it a fluke, or is Kaleni that much better? $20,000 for a KO? Ah, the mystery and intrigue. Is Horn over his eye injury? Will we see the Kali that battered Cameron or an "over the hill, 45 year old" who's looking for one last paycheck? Throw in Hemi, Willis Meehan and Izu and you got yourself a great undercard and main event!

Sign up to Sky Sports now, Channel 62 for $39.95. Brought to you by NZ promoter Duco. Can't wait.
If he gets sparked in 20 secs again I wonder if its the last we'll see of him? Hemis been saying that his team are pushing for him to box 4 maybe 5 more times before the end of the year ... would be an encouraging sign.
Very confident we will not see Jeff Horn on Parker Meehan under card due to the cut.
See this on Facebook. It would seem there is time for SBW to fight between world cup and sevens but this is one fight he won't be taking!

The NZ rankings are now on boxrec #1 Parker #2 SBW #3 Hemi Ahio. Both SBW and I are 7-0. What do you think?
Horns cut wasn't that bad was it. They stopped the bleeding easily enough
