What do you guys think of Izuagbe Ugonoh? Are they building him into an eventual Parker opponent?
Parker's sparring partner? No way. He's a good prospect, below Parker in the heavyweight extravaganza.
I'm not saying next, but a year or so down the line. He is going to have fought a few times in NZ so the audience would be familiar with him. It's not like sparring partners have never fought.
They live together in Vegas and train together under the same coach, they're hardly going to want to bash each other in the ring

Money talks and if the fight makes sense they'll make it happen. Ali (Clay) and Ellis were sparring partners and trained by Dundee, Holmes with Ali, Khan was happy to face Pacquiao etc.

Who knows how long they'll be stable mates? Things changes so fast in this sport that they could be rivals sooner than we think.

The seed was already planted in this article:

Does anyone know who Izu is fighting on June 13?

And are there any more fights to be added to the bill?

Kiwi boxer Robert Berridge has the opportunity he has waited six years for - a shot at a share of the world light heavyweight championship.

Plans have fallen into place for the 30-year-old southpaw (26-2-1) in the past three weeks since his bruising decision victory over Waikato's Andrew Robinson (4-3) at the Rise of the Fallen show in Wanganui.

Originally scheduled to fight Australian Rob Powdrill (5-1) for the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Inter-Continental belt in October, Berridge has been fast-tracked to face the IBO world champion Thomas Oosthuizen (24-0) at his home base at Emperors Palace in Gauteng, South Africa on June 6.

Berridge's manager Vasco Kovacevic said the win in Wanganui moved his fighter a step up the rankings, and suddenly spots opened up when Powdrill suffered a knee infection and had to have surgery.

"Thomas' original opponent hurt himself at this weekend as well.

"The performance that Rob had at Wanganui happened to be at the right time.
"We pitched the idea [of a title match]."

Oosthuizen, 27, another southpaw, has moved in similar circles to Berridge.

He also won the IBO Super middleweight title and made several defences including against ranked Australian Serge Yannick in 2012, whom Berridge knocked out a year later to signal his arrival on the world stage.

Osthuizen then won the vacant IBO light heavyweight belt by split decision against countryman Ryno Liebenberg (16-2) on March 14, and last month signed with a promotion run by top American manager Al Haymon, who includes Floyd 'Money' Mayweather among his clients.

"He is very tall, a little bit different as a boxer to other tall fighters - not as technical," said Kovacevic.

While the IBO is one of the lightly regarded bodies which sanctions world titles, Oosthuizen is still ranked 11th in the world by the independent website BoxRec, which signals a massive opportunity for Berridge, who is 34th.

Kovacevic said the quick turnaround to prepare for a different opponent should not be a problem as Powdrill also had a height advantage over Berridge so they were already getting ready for that kind of fight.

"We were in a mental state to do that [and] we were planning to be fit.

"That's two points we don't have to worry about.

"We strive for this, we're professionals, and this is what we do."

The last New Zealander to fight for a world title was Shane Cameron in his unsuccessful challenge to Australia's IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green in 2012.

If Berridge can claim the world title, his management are already considering a fight being held in Wanganui after the success of Rise of the Fallen, which attracted a crowd of around 1000 to Springvale Stadium.

"The plan is to go over there and bring it back and then defend it in Wanganui - that's no joke," Kovacevic said.

"Rob was impressed with Wanganui."

His cousin, Rise of the Fallen promotor Paul Berridge, said he will definitely be going to South Africa along with Kovacevic, wanting to have the entire Team Berridge support team there after they missed last year's big fight in America against Vasily Lepikhin - a devastating stoppage defeat.

"There's massive things - huge things ahead from this fight [for Wanganui].

"If all parties come to the table, in saying that."
I dunno, all due respect to my friend Vasco Kovacevic but I feel Robbie is under done for this one. He hasn't done enough since the loss he had and the breakdown. I hope he surprises me in this fight. Vasco told me yesterday he he and Robbie were working on a plan, I hope they have enough time to prepare for it.
Yep, I like Robbie as a fighter but I haven't heard of any 'dramatic' improvement, which is required for this next fight. But, I hope he proves me wrong, would love to see him improve his speed and movement, and walk through his opponents rather than wait to try and land bombs... good luck for this one!
